Mary Ann Bartels, Head of Research Investment Committee and ETFs, Bank of America – Merrill Lynch

Speakers’ Bios:

Mary Ann Bartels is head of Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) Strategy for BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research and is the lead author of The RIC Report, a monthly publication of the Research Investment Committee (RIC), which provides investment themes and actionable ideas, including asset allocation recommendations, for the firm’s clients.

With more than 25 years of investment experience, Ms. Bartels is known for high-quality portfolio strategy and research. She is an Institutional Investor All-America Research ranked analyst from 2006-2011 and is highly regarded for developing proprietary models for equity pairs trading and for her sector, industry and stock selection, as well as for her extensive work on Hedge Funds.

Prior to being appointed to her current role in July, 2018, Ms. Bartels was head of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Portfolio Strategy for the Global Wealth & Investment Management (GWIM) Chief Investment Office (CIO), a division of Bank of America Corporation. In this role, she was responsible for contributing to the thought leadership for investment guidance and portfolio strategies for financial advisors and clients. She also served as a GWIM Investment Strategy Committee voting member, responsible for promoting investment policy, guidance and strategy across Bank of America’s advisory network.

Formerly, she was head of U.S. Technical & Market Analysis at BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research. Ms. Bartels rejoined Merrill Lynch in 1999 working with the European Quantitative Strategy Team and became head of Global Equity Trading Research Strategy in 2001. Prior to this, Ms. Bartels held portfolio manager positions at Batterymarch in Boston and Avatar/Zweig Associates in New York.

Ms. Bartels earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Economics from Fordham University. Ms. Bartels serves on several advisory boards including her alma mater Fordham University.

Sean Kruzel

Sean is an MIT graduate and former Quantitative Global Macro Portfolio Manager.

While working at JP Morgan Investment Management and several hedge funds, he developed novel forecasting methods and trading strategies while honing his risk management and technology expertise.

In 2014 he founded Astrocyte Research to help investors better combine the strengths of discretionary and quantitative investment styles.

His new product, Portformer, introduces an innovative ranking system for mutual funds and ETFs that is helping financial advisors immediately identify ways to save their clients money and win more business.
